Right, the tournament kicks off in three days. If you're scrambling for the full World Cup 2026 schedule, UK kick-off times, who's playing where, and when England actually take the pitch — this is the only page you need. We've stripped out the fluff that ESPN and the BBC bury under autoplay videos and laid it out like a TV guide. Bookmark it, screenshot it, whatever works.

This is the first 48-team World Cup. It's also the first one shared by three host nations — USA, Mexico and Canada — which means you've got 104 matches spread across 16 venues over 39 days. It's a lot. The fixtures roll out from 11 June through to the final on Sunday 19 July, and unlike Qatar 2022, the kick-off times are largely UK-friendly evenings and late nights rather than midday work-from-home affairs.

World Cup 2026 dates at a glance

Before we get into the day-by-day grind, here are the dates you actually need to remember. Stick them in your phone calendar now and save yourself the panic later.

World Cup 2026 group stage dates and format

The expanded 48-team format means 12 groups of four rather than the old eight groups. Top two from each group go through, plus the eight best third-placed teams. That's 32 teams advancing — hence the new Round of 32 stage. Critics argued it would water down the group stage, but on paper it just means more weight on every single match because finishing third badly is no longer a free pass home.

Group stage matches are spread across the full 17 days from 11 June to 27 June. Most days carry four to six fixtures, with kick-offs staggered from roughly 6pm UK time (early-evening Eastern slots) right through to 4am UK (West Coast late kick-offs). If you're planning to watch live, the 8pm and 11pm UK slots are your best mates — those are the Mexico City and East Coast evenings.

England — assuming the draw plays out as projected — are likely to be based on the East Coast for the group stage, which means UK fans get evening kick-offs rather than the brutal midday slots from Qatar. Scotland, who qualified through the play-offs, are reportedly drawn into a Central time zone group, so expect 8pm and 1am UK starts for the Tartan Army.

World Cup 2026 venues: all 16 host cities

Sixteen venues, three countries, four time zones. Here's the lot:

  • USA (11 venues): MetLife Stadium (New Jersey), SoFi Stadium (Los Angeles), AT&T Stadium (Dallas), Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta), Hard Rock Stadium (Miami), NRG Stadium (Houston), Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia), Levi's Stadium (San Francisco Bay), Lumen Field (Seattle), Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City), Gillette Stadium (Boston)
  • Mexico (3 venues): Estadio Azteca (Mexico City), Estadio Akron (Guadalajara), Estadio BBVA (Monterrey)
  • Canada (2 venues): BMO Field (Toronto), BC Place (Vancouver)

The Estadio Azteca becomes the first stadium ever to host matches at three different World Cups (1970, 1986, 2026) — which is the kind of trivia your dad will mention at least four times over the summer. MetLife in New Jersey gets the final, no surprise given it's the biggest of the available stadiums and has the cleanest logistics for a global broadcast.

England and Scotland fixtures: UK kick-off times

England's opening fixture is currently scheduled for the second day of the tournament — Friday 12 June, 8pm UK. Their group-stage games then fall on roughly five-day rotations, so you're looking at fixtures around 17 June and 22 June if they top out the group. If they qualify for the Round of 32, that match likely falls on either 30 June or 1 July.

Scotland's first match is pencilled for Saturday 13 June, with a 1am UK kick-off (sorry, night owls). Their schedule is the harder one logistically — Central time zone means most of their games will hit the small hours over here.

If you want to trade individual England match outcomes — including correct score, goal-scorer, and minute-of-first-goal markets — Polymarket tends to have far deeper liquidity for these niche markets than traditional UK books. The tournament-long markets on Polymarket also let you exit your position mid-event, which is something fixed-odds bookies still can't really compete with.

World Cup 2026 knockout schedule

The Round of 32 is the genuinely new bit. Six days of single-leg knockouts from 28 June to 3 July, with two fixtures per day on most days. Then a four-day Round of 16 (4–7 July), a three-day quarter-final block (9, 10, 11 July), semis on 14 and 15 July, and the showpiece on Sunday 19 July.

The rest day pattern is generous — usually two days between rounds for the surviving teams — which should mean fresher legs in the latter stages than we saw in Qatar's compressed winter format. The final kicks off at 8pm UK time on Sunday 19 July at MetLife Stadium. Closing ceremony first, kick-off shortly after. Plan your day around it.

How to watch and follow live in the UK

BBC and ITV are sharing coverage as always — every match free to air, split between the two. The BBC Sport app has the full World Cup 2026 fixtures and scores feed live. Sky Sports News will run their dedicated breakfast show across the tournament, and Talksport will have radio commentary for the lot.

If you're after odds or trading angles, our other write-ups are worth a glance — we've gone deep on crypto sportsbooks Cloudbet versus Thunderpick for those who prefer non-UKGC books, and there's a full Bitstarz review if you fancy a casino sideline between matches. For something a bit different from straight match betting, our roulette tactics guide covers staking patterns that translate surprisingly well to football trading.

The thing about Polymarket for tournaments is that you're trading against other people, not against a bookmaker's margin. On an event with this much volume, the implied probabilities tend to be tighter to true odds than what you'll see on the high street. Worth opening an account and parking some funds before the opener if you're going to be trading more than a handful of matches.
